If your child is between 9 months and 2 years old, you may be eligible for 15 hours of free childcare per week during term time. Here’s a simple breakdown:

Eligibility: Working parents of children aged 9 months to 2 years.
Hours: 15 hours per week for 38 weeks a year.
Start Date: You can apply from when your child is 23 weeks old, and the free hours start from the term after your child turns 9 months old.
Application: You need to apply for a code through the government’s childcare service and provide it to your chosen childcare provider 1 2.

Working parents of 3 and 4-year-olds in England can get up to 30 hours of free childcare per week. This is an additional 15 hours on top of the universal 15 hours already available to all parents of 3 and 4-year-olds.

To qualify for the 30 hours free childcare scheme, parents need to meet the following criteria:

Employment: Both parents (or the sole parent in a single-parent family) must be working. This includes being employed, self-employed, or on a zero-hours contract.
Income: Each parent must earn at least the equivalent of 16 hours per week at the National Minimum Wage or Living Wage. This is approximately £152 per week if you are 23 or older. However, neither parent should earn more than £100,000 per year.

Government Contribution: For every £8 you pay into the account, the government adds £2.
